System Requirements for Using TechSmith Knowmia

Windows

  • Windows 10
  • Media Feature Pack required for N versions of Windows 10
  • In most cases, video recording requires a microphone. An external microphone is recommended.
  • 10 GB of free drive space per recording hour
  • Camera video recording requires a USB web camera or internal web camera. Digital video (DV) cameras and capture cards are not supported.

Mac

  • macOS 10.13 or later (including macOS 11)
  • In most cases, video recording requires a microphone. An external microphone is recommended.
  • 10 GB of free drive space per recording hour
  • Camera video recording requires a USB web camera or internal iSight. Digital video (DV) cameras and capture cards are not supported.
  • NOTE: Macs that utilize Apple’s new M1 chip (Apple Silicon) are not yet supported.

To view videos and manage your TechSmith Knowmia library, please use one of the following supported browsers:

Setting Up Your TechSmith Knowmia Account

Go to https://athens.techsmithrelay.com and click the “Sign In” button.

Enter your Athens State Email account and click the “Next” button.

NOTE*:  It is STRONGLY recommended you click the "Don't Remember Me" option - especially if you are logging into a shared or public computer.  The system will keep you logged in for up to a year unless you select the option noted by the arrow below.

 

Click the “Having Trouble?” link.

Select the “I forgot my password” option.  The other options will not work as your account is created using your my.athens.edu email account.

Then enter your Athens State Email address and click the “Send” button.

The page will check for your account and send you an email with a password reset link.

Once you have received the confirmation notice, check your Athens State Email for the password reset link.

Once you receive the email, click the “Reset Password” link.  This will take you to a TechSmith page where you can set your password.

Create a password for TechSmith Knowmia and click "Change Password".  This will be the password you use when accessing the TechSmith Knowmia site directly.

Once the confirmation page appears, click the “Continue” button.

When your profile page pulls up, your password has been successfully set.  At this point, you are in TechSmith’s main system, NOT the Athens State instance.

Close your Internet Browser and relaunch the browser.

 

From this point on, you will use these instructions to access the Knowmia site in the future.

Go to https://athens.techsmithrelay.com and click the “Sign In” button.

If you are not automatically logged in, enter your Athens State Email account and click the “Next” button.

Enter the password you created and click the “Sign In” button.

This should take you to the Athens State Knowmia homepage with your account appearing.

At this point, you have accessed the system and are ready to begin managing your recordings.  Be sure to keep track of your password for future logins to the TechSmith site.

Installing TechSmith Knowmia Capture

                Windows

To begin recording videos using TechSmith Knowmia, you will need to download and install TechSmith Capture on your computer.  You can download this capture software on all of the computers you use. 

You will only need to install capture one time on each computer you use.  After the initial install, you will only be prompted to launch the recorder when creating videos.  

 

To download TechSmith Capture on a new computer:

Login by going to http://athens.techsmithrelay.com.  From the login screen, click on the “Launch Capture” button located in the upper-left hand corner of the screen.

In the window that appears, click “Download”. Once the download completes, click on the Setup.exe file to run it.

This will install Capture on the computer. Upon successful installation, you should receive a message that the process is complete.  Go back to Knowmia and click the “Close” button if the window still appears.

NOTE*:  When you first install the new recorder on a machine, you may need to logout and sign back in so it can sync.  This needs to be done with some new installs.  After the initial install, you will not have to log in and out again.

 

Click on the person icon in the upper-right hand corner of the screen and select “Sign Out”.

When you have logged out of the system, click “Sign In” and complete the login process.

 

When on the home screen, click the “Launch Capture” button again.

This time, when the launch window appears, you may be prompted to open TechSmith Capture.  If so, go ahead and open the software.  If you are not prompted, click on the “Launch Now” link to launch the recorder.

Once the recorder appears on your screen, the process is complete and you will be able to record videos from your computer.

Please remember that once the recorder is installed on a computer, you will not have to install it again to record in the future.  These instructions are intended for a one time install of TechSmith Capture.

macOS

To begin recording videos using TechSmith Knowmia, you will need to download and install TechSmith Capture on your computer.  You can download this capture software on all of the computers you use.

In the window that appears, click “Download”. Once the download completes, locate the TechSmithCapture.dmg file to run it.

Drag the TechSmith Capture icon into the Applications folder.

This will install Capture on the computer. Upon successful installation, you should receive a message that the process is complete.  Go back to Knowmia and click the “Close” button if the window still appears.

The computer will verify the installation and then may ask you to grant permissions.

Enable each item. The final item – System Audio – may require a plug-in to be installed.

When all items are Enabled and Installed, click the Done button and the Recorder will appear on your screen.

Once the recorder appears on your screen, the process is complete and you will be able to record videos from your computer.
