NOTE*: Relay allows you to add entire folders of videos to a course rather than having to add multiple individual videos. For information on when to use folders instead of individual videos, see the Adding Folders Versus Individual Videos instructions. Otherwise, the instructions on this page assume you will be adding individual videos throughout your course (i.e. Lectures)
Once you have either Created a Video in Relay or Recorded a Video through Blackboard, you will need to add it to the course. Once a video is added to a course, it will automatically copy to future courses if you use the Course Copy feature to transfer your course.
To add a video that you have created to Blackboard, complete the following instructions:
NOTE*: Steps 1-3 are only applicable for situations where you are adding a video already recorded in Relay (see instructions here). If you have recorded a video directly in Blackboard (see instructions here), you can skip to Step 4.
Step 1: Go to the Blackboard course where you want to add the video. Within the course, navigate to the area where you want the students to access the video. Once in the area you want the video to be placed, hover over the "Tools" option in Blackboard and select "TechSmith Relay". (see image below)
Step 2: Name the video and add a brief description if you desire. It is a good practice to add descriptions in both Blackboard and on the actual Relay video. This can be done by copying and pasting the text from one area to the other. (see image below)
Step 3: Scroll down to adjust the additional options. If you are grading the students on whether or not they watch the video, enter the total points assigned for the video. If you are not going to grade the video, enter zero. For more information on grading videos, review the Grading Relay Videos instructions. Otherwise, the remaining options are standard options on Blackboard items. Once done, click “Submit”. (see image below)
Step 4: The item is placed at the bottom of the area in Blackboard, so you may need to scroll down to see it. Click on the title of the item. (see image below)
Step 5: Once clicked, you will see an LTI launch screen. This screen will automatically change once connected to Relay. This may take a few minutes depending on how many videos you have in your library. (see image below)
Step 6: Once the system connects, you will see your folders and any videos in your Relay Library. Locate the video you want to add to the class. If the video is located in a folder, you can click “Open Folder” to view the videos within a folder (for information on creating folders, please view the Creating Folders in Relay instructions). Once you have located the video you want to add, click “Add Media”. (see image below)
Step 7: Once you add the media, a copy of your video will appear for you to review. At this point, the video has been added to your course. To double-check, you can click on the Blackboard breadcrumb navigation to return to the content area in Blackboard. (see image below)
Step 8: Once in Blackboard, scroll to the video link you created in Step 4. When clicking on the title of the link this time, you will be shown the video. This is the same view the students will get. If you are seeing the video at this point, then the video has been added correctly and you are good to go. (see image below)
NOTE*: When in Blackboard, you can adjust the location of the video link you created as you would any other item created in Blackboard.
