When you are Creating Graded Videos in Knowmia that uses quiz questions rather than based on the amount of video watch, you’ll need to determine the types of questions to ask and the type of feedback you want to give. Some of the question types allow for automatic grading and some are not included in the grading scheme. As for feedback, you can tell students whether they are right or wrong as well as adjust actions in the video based on their answer.
Below, you will find descriptions and instructions for both the types of questions and types of feedback available in the Relay system.
Types of Questions
As shown in the image above, Relay allows you to use the following question types:
- Multiple Choice
- True / False
- Fill in the Blank
- Free Response (not included in the grading of a video)
Multiple Choice: Multiple Choice questions allow for a student to select one answer out of a variety of answers. Click on the Multiple Choice option, enter the question text on the left, and finish by placing your answer choices on the right and marking the correct answer. Currently, multiple choice questions only allow for the selection of ONE correct answer.
True / False: True / False questions allow for a student to select whether or not a statement made by the instructor / video is true or false. Click on the True / False option, enter the statement on the left, and finish by marking the correct answer on the right.
Fill in the Blank: Fill in the Blank questions allow for a student to freely input an answer to a question. Click on the Fill in the Blank option, enter the question text on the left, and finish by placing all possible answer choices on the right. You must include every variation of a possible answer and / or spelling of an answer and take into account case sensitivity. Due to the potential error in spelling associated with Fill in the Blank questions, it is recommended you try to re-format your question into a Multiple Choice style question and use that format instead.
Free Response: Free Response questions allow for a student to freely write an answer similar to an essay style. FREE RESPONSE QUESTIONS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN GRADE. Hence, they are primarily used to solicit feedback from your students. Click on the Free Response option and enter the question text. There are no right or wrong options associated with this question type and they must be manually looked at when checking for correctness.
Types of Feedback
As shown in the image above, you can give feedback based on whether the student answers the question correctly or incorrectly. The process for providing feedback in both of these situations is the same. If the student gets the answer correct, that feedback is placed in the column on the left. If the student gets the question wrong, that feedback is placed in the column on the right.
You have a few actions that can be associated with whether or not a student gets a question right. The following are the possible actions available with questions in Relay:
- Jump to Time
- Go to URL
Continue: Select continue will allow the student to proceed as normal through the video once the question has been answered.
Jump to Time: This option allows you to make the video play head jump to a specified time in the video. For example, if the student gets the question wrong, you can set the Jump to Time option to start playing the video at the segment of the movie that discussed that specific question so the student can review it.
To set the Jump to Time option, you’ll need to play the video and hover your mouse over the timeline at the point you want the video to jump to. Make a note of the minutes and seconds that display. Then, enter that time in the Time (MMM:SS.000) section of the Jump to Time action. (see image below)
Go to URL: This option opens up a new web browser and takes the student to a specified URL. For example, if the student gets the question right and you decide to share an article with them for further information, you can use the Go to URL to take them directly to the article following the answering of the question.
To set the Go to URL, simply copy and paste the desired URL into the blank space area of the Go to URL action.
