Sending Email through Blackboard

With the Blackboard course email tool, you can send emails to course instructors or classmates without the need to switch to Outlook. This is a send-only tool, and Blackboard keeps no record of your email whether you send or receive it. Recipients receive it in their email accounts, and replies go to your email account, not to the Blackboard course.

Note: Be sure to keep a copy of important messages.

To use Blackboard’s Send Email tool:

Locate the course navigation menu, and select the Tools link.

Select the Send Email option.

You can send email to individual users or to groups of users.
The most commons groups of users you will send emails to are course instructors and classmates.

Emailing Instructors

    All Instructors
    Specific Instructors

Emailing Classmates

    All Student Users
    Specific Students

 

 

Instructors

All Instructors

To send an email to all instructors in the course, select All Instructor Users option.

Fill in the subject line, compose your email in the text box, and click Submit to send your email.

Specific Instructors

To send an email to only one course instructor, select Select Users option.

Choose your instructor’s name from the Available to Select list, and click the forward arrow.

The instructor’s name should appear in the selected box.

Fill in the subject line, compose your email in the text box, and click Submit to send your email.

Note: Use only alphanumeric file names and addresses as Blackboard does not recognize spaces or special characters.
Do not send emails without a subject line. A blank subject line blank can prevent the message from being delivered.

 

 

Classmates

All Student Users

To send an email to all students in the course, select All Student Users.

Fill in the subject line, compose your email in the text box, and click Submit to send your email.

Specific Students

To send an email to specific students in the course, select Select Users option.

Choose the student name or names from the Available to Select list, and click the forward arrow.

The email recipient’s name should appear in the selected box. Do this for each student user you want to email.

Fill in the subject line, compose your email in the text box, and click Submit to send your email.
