Getting Started
In Canvas, course incompletes are handled within the same course shell. Rather than access a different course to work with Incompletes, you and the students will return to the same course in Canvas.
When you determine you will have Incompletes in a course, notify the Help Desk with these items:
- Student Name
- Student Email
- CRN of the course
- How long the student extension should be
The admin will create a section in your course named “<Course Name> - Incompletes” and will add the instructor(s) and specified students to the new section. The admin will also set the section accessibility dates for the dates of the upcoming semester (if the students need access outside of these dates, please notify the admin). You will be notified when the section has been created and is ready for you to work within it.
NOTE: At Athens State, we only use Canvas sections for Incompletes. The functionality cannot be used to combine different CRNs of the same base course (for example, different CRNs of ED 305 taught by the same instructor) – this is against university policy. Each CRN must be housed in a separate course shell.
