Using your existing browser, navigate to www.opera.com
Click the Download Opera button on the home page.
The site will automatically detect your operating system. Confirm that Windows is listed.
Click Download now.
Your browser may begin downloading the installer automatically. If prompted, choose Save.
Locate the downloaded file in your default download location or from the browser’s download bar/notification.
Double-click the OperaSetup.exe file to start the installer.
If you see a User Account Control screen, click Yes to continue.
Follow the installer prompts. You can choose:
- Accept and Install
Opera will download necessary components and install automatically.
When finished, Opera will launch and open the start page.
macOS
Using your existing browser, navigate to www.opera.com.
Click the Download Opera button. The website should detect your OS as macOS.
Click Download now. If prompted, click Allow or Save File to confirm the download.
Locate the downloaded Opera file—this may be:
In your browser’s download bar
In the Dock’s Downloads folder
In your Downloads folder in Finder
Run the installer. Depending on the version you downloaded:
.dmg file: Double-click to open it. Drag the Opera icon to the Applications folder to install.
Direct installer: Double-click to run the .pkg or .app file. Follow the prompts to install automatically.
Once installed, launch Opera from Launchpad or Applications.
On first launch, macOS may ask if you’re sure you want to open it. Click Open.
Note: Newer Opera versions sometimes skip the traditional drag-to-Applications step. Instead, they may install automatically and open Opera as soon as installation completes.
Managing Pop-Ups in Opera
By default, Opera blocks most unwanted pop-ups. When a pop-up is blocked, you’ll see an icon in the address bar.
To allow pop-ups for a specific site:
Click the Pop-up blocked icon in the address bar.
Choose Always allow pop-ups from [site].
Confirm the site address is correct before allowing.
Turn Pop-Ups On or Off Globally
- Click the Easy Setup icon (top-right) or the Settings gear.
- Scroll down and click Go to full browser settings (if needed).
- Under Privacy & Security, click Site Settings.
- Click Pop-ups and redirects.
- Toggle the setting to Allowed or Blocked.
- Add exceptions by clicking Add under Allowed to send pop-ups and redirects or Not allowed to send pop-ups.
Managing Cookies in Opera
- Click the Easy Setup icon or Settings (gear icon).
- Scroll down and select Go to full browser settings if needed.
- Click Privacy & Security on the left.
- Click Third Party Cookies
- Choose your preferred setting:
- Allow all cookies (recommended for most users)
- Block third-party cookies
- Block all cookies (not recommended)
- You can also add sites to Allow or Block under Sites that can always use cookies.
Clearing the Cache & History in Opera
- Click the Easy Setup icon or Menu (O icon top-left on Windows).
- Select Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security in the sidebar.
- Click Delete browsing data.
- Select the Advanced tab for more options.
- Choose Time range – for a full reset, select All time.
- Check the boxes for:
- Browsing history
- Cookies and other site data
- Cached images and files
- Click Delete data.
- Close and reopen Opera to complete the process.
